When it comes to reliability, staying on the "bleeding edge" is not what it's all about.

It is important to keep in mind that your computer is your livelihood.  Consider the frustration and lost time (and money) if you don't have a working computer for just one day.  Unless you are absolutely, 100% confident that an update provided by Apple, Microsoft, Digidesign, or any other software manufacturer is going to improve the function and reliabilty of your computer, DON'T DO IT. As a general rule, updates to your OS's security are recommended, and in our experience don't interfere with audio hardware and software.

Will you miss out on some cool features?  Yes. For this reason I recommend most professional voiceover artists have a minimum of two computers.  One is dedicated to production (making you money) and the other is your day-to-day personal computer.  If you really need that new version of iTunes, install it on the NON production computer.  Believe me, you'll thank us for this advice someday.
